Join the OAA and ABC-2 for a tour of 3 aquatic culture facilities on Saturday, October 27th. Stops will include Brehm's Perch Farm (pond culture in West Liberty), Oasis Aqua Farm (organic aquaculture in Beavercreek), and Jones Fish Hatcheries and Distributors (fish stocking, lake and pond management in Cincinnati). This is a great opportunity to visit various types of aquaculture businesses and talk directly to their operators, and also network with friends and fellow culturists.
Presented by the Ohio Aquaculture Association, the Ohio State University South Centers Aquaculture Boot Camp, and the USDA's North Central Regional Aquaculture Center. The day will consist of both formal presentations and hands-on experience covering topics on fish dissection and information all farmers should know to assess fish health, best management practices in fish health and biosecurity, disease prevention, and stress management.
Gain an improved understanding of industry trends, system design and engineering, economics and marketing, regulatory compliance requirements and aquaponic system management techniques with specific focus on the major revenue generator – the plants. Participants will earn a certificate of completion and receive a USB flash drive with instructor presentations and workshop resources.
The Kentucky State University Aquaculture Research Center will be hosting an indoor aquaculture program covering topics like permits, recirculating systems, hatchery production, tilapia and shrimp feed and feeding systems, and aquaponic systems. Tours of the facility will also be offered.
